Cast your Burdens

Are you beginning this week feeling anxious, fearful, or desperate to escape your suffering? You’re not alone. Even David, a man after God’s own heart, experienced such emotions. In Psalm 55:4-8, he writes:

My heart is in anguish within me; the terrors of death have fallen upon me. Fear and trembling come upon me, and horror overwhelms me. And I say, “Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest; yes, I would wander far away; I would lodge in the wilderness; Selah. I would hurry to find a shelter from the raging wind and tempest.”

Though David longed to flee from his anguish, he knew where to turn. Instead of running away, he declared, “I call to God, and the LORD will save. Evening and morning and at noon I utter my complaint and moan, and he hears my voice” (Psalm 55:15-16). Like David, we, too, can bring our raw emotions before God.

His invitation still stands today:

Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved (Psalm 55:22).

Since you cannot escape your suffering, run to the cross. There, Jesus bore our greatest burden—the weight of sin itself. If He could carry that burden for us, surely He can sustain us through our daily trials, whether they last a day, a week, a month, or years. Remember His word: “Cast your anxieties upon the Lord because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7).
